Why Ontario Is a Top Winter Travel Destination

Ontario offers an easy mix of iconic city experiences and nature escapes, all within a few hours of Toronto. Whether you want luxury hotels, ski weekends, wineries, or scenic winter trails, you can build a trip around your travel style.

What makes Ontario winter travel unique

  • Big-city energy in Toronto paired with nearby nature and resort destinations
  • Winter festivals, seasonal dining, and holiday attractions
  • Ski hills, spas, cabins, and cottage-country lodges for true downtime
  • Short travel distances between major destinations (ideal for a multi-stop itinerary)

The Best Winter Getaways in Ontario

Below are some of the most popular and most rewarding winter destinations for travellers flying into the province.

Toronto: Winter city energy, dining, shopping, and seasonal events

Toronto is often the gateway to Ontario for international travellers, and it’s also a winter getaway on its own. Think luxury hotels, fine dining, premium shopping, and iconic attractions—plus seasonal experiences that make the city feel extra vibrant in winter.

Best for:

  • First-time visitors to Ontario
  • Couples weekends and city breaks
  • Sports, theatre, and upscale dining nights

The Blue Mountains: Ski weekends and resort-style winter fun

If your winter getaway means fresh air and snow sports, The Blue Mountains is one of Ontario’s most popular winter escapes. It’s ideal for ski and snowboard trips, spa time, and cozy evenings after a day on the hills.

Best for:

  • Ski and snowboard weekends
  • Friend group trips and winter birthdays
  • Families who want activity plus comfort

Niagara Falls: A winter classic with lights, views, and romantic stays

Niagara Falls offers a more tranquil, atmospheric experience in the winter, making it a sophisticated year-round getaway. Enhance your winter itinerary with luxury hotels, Falls-view dining, and a visit to nearby Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Best for:

  • Romantic getaways and anniversary trips
  • Photography and scenic winter walks
  • Weekend travellers who want a short, high-impact escape

Ottawa: Winter festival vibes and iconic Canadian scenery

For travellers who want a true “Canada in winter” experience, Ottawa delivers. It’s known for classic winter culture, seasonal events, and a distinctly Canadian atmosphere that international visitors often put on their bucket list.

Best for:

  • International travellers who want iconic winter experiences
  • Family trips built around winter activities
  • A longer Ontario itinerary beyond the GTA

Muskoka: Cozy cottage-country luxury and snowy landscapes

Muskoka is the definition of a cozy winter reset: quiet landscapes, forest trails, boutique accommodations, and that warm-and-relaxed feeling that comes with a real escape. It’s a strong pick for travellers who want nature, comfort, and slower mornings.

Best for:

  • Cabin weekends and romantic winter retreats
  • Wellness-focused trips and spa stays
  • Travellers who want peaceful scenery and privacy

Prince Edward County: Wine country charm with a winter twist

Prince Edward County (PEC) is well-known for wineries, local food, and boutique stays—and winter is a great time to enjoy it at a calmer pace. Think cozy tastings, farm-to-table dining, artisan shops, and a relaxed itinerary built around comfort and charm.

Best for:

  • Couples getaways
  • Food-and-wine travellers
  • A quieter, curated escape away from city traffic

Why Premium Airport Transfers Matter More in Winter

Winter travel adds extra variables: weather shifts, road conditions, airport delays, and heavier luggage. For many travellers, this is exactly when chauffeured service becomes less of a luxury and more of a smart decision.

The benefits of chauffeured airport transportation in winter

  • A warm, private vehicle waiting after your flight
  • No rental-car lines, driving stress, or winter navigation
  • Safer, smoother travel on seasonal roads
  • Reliable timing for resort check-ins, dinner reservations, and itineraries
  • A more polished arrival for couples, families, and VIP travellers

I used this service for our trip to Pearson Airport. From the time of booking to the ride to the airport, every thing was seamless. Our driver Mohamed arrive in an Escalade which was super comfortable. He was very courteous and helpful in ensuring our luggage was safely packed and unloaded at the airport. Highly recommend this company.

Toplink and driver Muhammad are the absolute best! On time service, friendly and helpful, stay in communication to make pick up easy, great to just walk out of the airport and have a clean comfortable car right at the door.
